And so it goes, something that makes our host go bump! Thanks to the Pakistan Nokia office, we got our hands on a Nokia 5800 Xpress Music phone (also known as the Batman phone.. watch the episode and you’ll know why!) – Our host does a review of the phone and plays some interesting music to show off the speakers this little puppy has!
It should be retailing between RS.30 – Rs.35,000 bucks when it comes into the market and well.. do share your thoughts on what if you liked it as much as us!
Of course, detailed commentary COULD win a t-shirt, similar to the one our host is wearing (hopefully NOT her’s!!) Enjoy!
What did you think of this episode? This phone? This review? This write up? Leave a thought behind and let us know!

nice phone with exciting new features. Must give it a trial!!!
oh the media bar rubbish it that little button uder the secondary cam on front of phone .. it not that amazing
you can use 1 hand to type you didnt show the ways of texting, u dont have to look well i did for a while tho so let you off , i have had my phone 2 months its soooo simple to use i find as my old phone was a sony ericsson , the sound quality it mint , its like the n95 sound , you dont get alot of batt life the first couple of day but then randomly you get days worth and your like how come it lasting longer haha , the media bar is most probz the program short cut thing like the contacts one ,
Since it has no comparison with iphone but it has some its own good points like its palm size smaller than iphone and its smarto set
Yes, its a cool review huh!!!
see this and you will also get to know how to become and over smart
Good point about how we should not have to read the manual.
Yeah! That’s not Rabia jee’s ugly phone
that’s a cute phone that is
Okay – you got me there.. I hadn’t paid attention to how COOL LOOKING the G1 is.. Actually you’re right.. if it’s about a phone that’s integrated with my life, I think I WOULD consider switching over to a G1.. Like most people in these here parts, I like the SMS feature as much as the next person and HATE the concept of the virtual keyboard. Besides the obvious issue, can you really tap out an angry message and ensure that the keys are bent beyond repair if you have a virtual keyboard?!?!?
Okay – You got me! I am starting to like this discussion and it seems ALMOST worthy of a tee shirt! What say you, Host?
haha.. well, yes, the iphone is really cool.. though it all depends on who the user is. as i said, i’d even wait for the google phone, considering there’s a lot of potential, with Google single sign-on being the key differentiator right from the start. I’d go for the G1 at this point, though not many applications available, but something that we can all look forward to.
@MystaKool – Ugh.. I just cannot stand the Sony Ericsson though I think it has a lot to do with Nokia’s interface… I can’t imagine anyone who wants to get true power FROM a phone, not growing to love the interface.. it’s been logical and the T9 option used to be to die for, until everyone else also added it on..
I don’t really like the HTC either.. In fact, the ONLY other phone I think I would give up Nokia for, would be the iPhone, and that too because of the finger-friendliness.. Should we really have to use a stylus when we run away from pens in real life communication? Tsk.. this one has me tied up in knots!
I am not a die hard Nokia fan, and apparently have found Sony Ericsson phones lots better in many ways. I still miss my SE W810i, with the 2mp autofocus camera and high quality media player, and yet a simple non-Symbian phone. I think there is more to Windows Mobile too… try HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Diamond Pro. A bit on the expensive side, but something to really watch out for. Considering even launching a Virtual Machine and running another OS on it… my colleague ran Android on it… which by the way is another great OS to start with…
Hmmm… might have to bribe Badar at handing over one to me
HMmmm…. Let’s see! I shall just have to start up a viral marketing spree JUST no avoid this one, Farhan! Perhaps we can settle on a Biryani voucher?
@ Rabia , given the total number of responses , till now is she left with a choice but me
18 till I die
Farhan
1 – I am not a Nokia fan.
2 – I like the Klashinakov song. Its deep.
3 – “Let me in the Sound.”
@Host – the Clashanikov was my idea!! I think it’s a thandaa song!
I too am a long standing Nokia fan.
That is why it irks me to see a phone from Nokia that I could not gush over.
I do not use the iPhone because I am not a fan of the virtual keyboard.
Yes, you can get around the fact that features are some levels deep in the menu tree by placing them on your home screen as a short cut but I did find navigating the menu not as easy as other Nokia phones.
I did not like having to “un-praise” this phone, (in fact considered re-doing the whole show, but I stand by what I said!) because like most of us here, I too love Nokia phones (I think I said that) and also because I had been so looking forward to a new line of Nokia phones… perhaps the next iteration will be better for me.
As for the music… I am sorry if you all did not like it… it was not meant as a representation of any personal tastes but was placed there in jest! I am sure you all have great taste in music!
Also, it may just be me…you all may have a better experience with the phone.
@Farhan – Sorry – I closed the Firefox Window as opposed to the Tab, bringing a close to our chat! Of course I remember you! You are the Biryani Guy from the Karachi Bloggers Meetup!
You pointed out a mistake that was mine and not the hosts, so from my side, I am STILL looking to give the tee-shirt to someone else! However, the final decision IS the hosts and not mine, so unless you write something that may, well, appeal to her “bestest” judgment, someone else may be getting the (new) tee!
My taste is better then that Kashinkov song , I missed it on 89 , call me old school with ABBA and Eagles some Whigfield and Roxette you can deduce my age
@Altaf – Thanks! I’m hoping that there will be other iterations, but I too found the phone GREAT in photographs.. not so much in using it.. But like most people, I am also a HUGE Nokia fan… I am STILL inclined to wait for something better from Nokia!
@Farhan – Sheesh! The things we do for freebies!
I can’t comment on the other things, but as for your taste in music… BRYAN ADAMS?! Ugh… So you COULD be a youngish 20 something, so I’ll write you off for the t-shirt since your commentary was so ummm.. personal. (Despite the fact that CityFM89 was playing it today at around today 8:30pm which has NO relevance to this review, akin to some of your own commentary!)
The 12:20 was an editing mistake so no, the host wasn’t suffering from deja vu!
Is there anyone on the planet who ISN’T a die hard Nokia fan? Thanks for stopping by..
Hi , just saw your review , envy you for having the phone ,that said coming to your review , first check which firmware are you using , the latest F/w 20.0.0.12 makes it faster when switching from portrait to landscape mode , upgrade it I think Nokia will not mind . It has also improved the ‘touch screen ‘ makes it better responsive .
For Camera , you can setup a shortcut on main screen .
It’s Nokia they have so many options that they have to have them in seperate menu
For Maps – Nokia Maps does work in Pakistan , it does not show you street names or Navigation but you can see where you are using it’s Satellite mode
i like the outside SIM feature like my 7650 it’s hot swappable or not , no more taking out the battery .
Why you look so bored at 9:39 ???
5800 is a XPRESS MUSIC phone not a business phone but I’ll use it for displaying power point to my clients
Seems like you were more inclined towards iPhone in the begining OOh i forgot it was ITouch , try changing battery and sending MMS with Apple
at 11:03 what kind of hellish music was that Kalashankov song for god sake play some Bryan Adams , Mehdi HAssan or Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan .
repeating yourself at 12:20 or it was a video error
You can’t find MEdia Bar , look into the menus you will find it .
sorry for bashing you I’m a diehard Nokia fan not to mention had been after Nokia Pakistan to give this phone for review now where is my T-shirt and i want a new one

ohh it ended up atlast, It was the first time that I was waiting eagerly for the review to finish up (though I could stop it), but truly this phone doesn’t impress me at all and I am still wondering that Nokia came up with such kinda of a phone. Specially that sim holder was soo funny
It doesn’t have any class as compared to my iPhone. I would say this for sure that iPhone rocks.
