PASHA signs MoU with BASIS: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA) and the Bangladesh Software and Information Services (BASIS) in Dhaka. . The MoU has been signed to open up the doors for co-operation between the IT Industry Associations of both countries.

China Mobile offers to lay fibre optic cable: China Mobile Communication Corporation (CMCC) has offered to lay a fibre optic cable from Karakoram to Gwadar. China Mobile future plans to invest another $500 million in the country’s economy during 2009 in the areas of building new network capacity of more than 20 million customer base and other infrastructure. The delegation had pointed out that the company had so far invested $1.66 billion in Pakistan and has generated more than 1,700 direct and over 40,000 indirect jobs in the country.

Electronic Surveillance System for Pneumonia: The Indus Hospital Research Center and Nokia Pakistan have announced the successful implementation of Interactive Alerts, an electronic surveillance system for pneumonia in Karachi. It said the Interactive Alerts system has been specifically developed to use the Nokia 6131 NFC phone for childhood pneumonia surveillance and referral in low-resource settings, although it can be easily extended to other diseases.

Mobile companies asked to implement new system: Showing satisfaction over the new system of activation of SIMs after verifications, Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Dr Mohammad Yaseen asked the CEOs of all mobile companies to ensure strict implementation of devised procedures and if franchisers/retailers found guilty, then action should be taken against them. A meeting was held at the PTA headquarters, which was attended by Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of all mobile companies. PTA chairman appreciated the efforts made by mobile companies in the launching of the new system of “Activation of SIMs after Verification”.
