2 - 1961 – NASA civilian pilot Joseph A Walker takes X-15 to 32,770 m.
3 - 1961 – U.S. President John F. Kennedy announces before a special joint session of Congress his goal to initiate a project to put a “man on the moon” before the end of the decade.
4 – 1953 – The first public television station in the United States officially begins broadcasting as KUHT from the campus of the University of Houston.
5 – 1966 – Explorer program: Explorer 32 launches.
6 - 2008 – NASA’s Phoenix spacecraft lands in the polar region on Mars.
