Four firms upgrading partnership with Oracle: The four organisations, A.F. Ferguson & Co, Jaffer Brothers (Pvt) Ltd, KPMG Taseer Hadi & Co, and Techlogix Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd, have upgraded their memberships in the Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN). Jaffer Brothers (Pvt) Ltd and Techlogix Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd are now a Certified Advantage Partner (CAP), the highest membership level in OPN, while A.F. Ferguson and Co, and KPMG Taseer Hadi have achieved Certified Partner (CP) status.
Zong to double its cellular sites by end of 2009: China Mobile Pakistan has planned to maximise the coverage capacity of its cellular phone operator-Zong-by increasing its number of cellular sites up to 9,000 across the country with an investment of $500 million by the end of 2009.
Official sources told that China Mobile has planned to double Zong’s cell sites in various parts of the country in order to facilitate their subscribers with smooth and fast signals traffic. It has established nearly 4,500 cellular cities in different metropolis and small cities so far. This will be one of the largest cellular cities project ever planned by any of the other operators.
Panel highlights hazards of used computers: A panel discussion on ‘refurbished computers, cost effective or technology defective’ was conducted to create awareness among people of the hazardous effects of used computers on environment and industry.
Representatives of all stakeholders including industry leaders from reputable multinational and local IT companies, environmentalist and government functionaries attended the discussion. Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Secretary Information Technology Maj (Retd) Mian Muhammad Zulqarnain Amir said the Punjab government has been spending Rs5 billion on computer education in government schools.
