My apologies for getting Murad’s name now. The heat is affecting the brain - mine and Rabia’s. The CEO of Tintash is Murad Akhter.

Rabia, Mannan was not writing on the floor. He was writing on the table. They use the glass separtor in the room for brainstorming as well. I didn’t shoot that because they had some future plans scribbled on that which I don’t think they wanted to share just yet.

They are really cool these two - and lots of fun and they work well together.

*laffs.. yes… This seems to be a perfect example of my brain OFF the WebStudio! See what happens, Jehan Ara, when you record interviews without me? ;-)

Will take care of it.. Like your other episodes, this is an excellent example of how a group of hardworking guys have found some deserving success! Thank you for bringing the dynamic duo to the WebStudio!

Thanks Rabia. I would appreciate it. I don’t like anyone getting my name wrong so I wouldn’t like to do that to someone else - especially someone as nice as Murad.

Dynamic Duo? They didn’t remind me of Batman and Robin ;)

Wow! These guys are from Apple. The company that built the iPhone. I am proud that we have such talent that has the potential to build the next iPhone (Made in Pakistan!).

Inshallah, we are on the path to building great products. May be this is our calling from the wide world out there. Let’s leave the low end services to our neighbors! We need to focus on products.

@Nadeem - They don’t work for Apple anymore but Murad DID work there for several years.. Pretty amazing stuff!

Interesting that you point out to products and services and there are obviously leading professionals that have thoughts on one or the other.. I do agree that the focus for more Pakistani companies should be on building strong products…. Service may not be our core expertise simply because of the numbers game..

Thanks a very nice show :). I personally believe we can have more game developers in this country, its just it requires hell lot more of an effort and hard work because no university or college will teach you that. But I also believe Game programming teaches one so much about Computer Science, its fascinating, and people should not really worry about taking it as a career. For me it is one of the most challenging Application of CS right next to OS.

@Nadeem, oh we do have lots of talent, we have people working in Microsoft, Google, Dell, Amazon, Ask.com, ibm (many more) and doing great, so yea we have brains, we just need to keep them in our country and give them environment to flourish.

hang on !! I’ll watch the episode later, but just to add to the discussion about Pakistan should go for products or services.

As far as the products are concerned, we have world best quality products here, e.g. cotton, fruits and various crops, our textile industry produces world class products. Everything is favourable and gifted by God. But what the hell our politicians/leaders have done to us?

Have anyone realized where our textile exports have dropped to? all thanks to the cancer of loadshedding. same goes with almost all the industries. Taxes are increasing, Inflation is increasing.

We are almost gona be unable to compete with international competition where China, India and Bangladesh are now eating up the market share. Being a Business student, I am most worried about what’s gona happen in future with our economy? you know in my opinion, this economic recession cancer is even worst then the cancer of terrorism.

In such scenario, we shouldn’t neglect services sector that has a great potential as we have been producing best talents that are able to compete with the world. Freelancers are example of it. So I think in the current scenario, we should try to keep our foriegn trade balance by focusing on services export too. before it’s also too late and India is already there to eat up our market share.

  14. Nadeem Ahsan Says:

@Farhan Janjua: Farhan, I reason we need to focus on products is because the services market is ‘low skilled’ and ‘low value add’. The Indians are good at it. So good that they employ close to 2 Million ‘Cyber Coolies’ in their industry doing $50 Billion of exports and growing to $100 Billion in the next 5 years. Hard for us to compete and win against them. That bus has left the station. Rather, we need to focus our precious resources on new product development. Imagine the creation of a new iPhone like phone for the mass market in Pakistan right here. There are 200 Million cell phone users in this country. That is a large market.
