Now that we’ve covered the basics, here’s the first episode where we take on the various aspects of marketing. Analytics is about knowing your customers based on an analysis of trends and their past behavior. Once you know what your customers are doing, you can customize offerings to better match their needs. Do companies in Pakistan understand what analytics can do for them? Tune into the discussion to find out. In fact, tune into Sameerah Siddiqui trying to explain the stuff to me!
And no, this is not the episode that is brought to you by Nandos (or anyone else!!) It’s all us!
As always, do leave your comments and let us know what you think about the topics discussed here!

HOME BASED WORK“
Hello,
First of all, thank you for the discussion. It will surely help many folks who may be trying to pick their career path.
I manage a business intelligence team in one of the world’s largest company of the world and have over 3-4 years of experience in this industry. While going to first 15 minutes of your discussion, I have raised some points about this discussion which I need some guidance and verification.
• Why is the name of the video called “Marketing analytics” and why not Business Intelligence? Because when you talk about Marketing analytics you focus purely on Marketing side of organisation such as product and customers (CRM, MM) etc however, there is a lot more to analytics then in marketing such as Supply chain. I myself manage the logistics information systems and business intelligence (analytics) needs and I can assure you that supply chain analytics is far more complex to Marketing! So why is that we are focusing on just one specific area of organisation? There was a great deal of discussion that marketing analytics would help company identify customers etc, but what about things such as suppliers? Or perhaps the best route and quickest route if you want to export goods to certain country? Order tracking? Etc etc?
• In the discussion, I learnt that analytics is well suited for medium – large size organisations and not really for small ones. My question is why not small ones? Here is an idea. I own a small shop for example general store or a wholesaler in Jodia bazar, karachi. If I have analytics or proper business intelligence implemented, I know what is the stock level, how much my warehouse is utilized, I can then calculate how much I utilize my warehouse on average and if I utilize it less, it may allow me to rent the portion of the store or perhaps expand the business? From what I know, SAP, the world’s biggest software is introducing various techniques to help small sized organisations manage their business effectively by providing BI techniques.
• In large scale organisations, it is often true (my own example) that analytics team or business intelligence team may not reside in IT department in fact they reside in the business department. Why? Because t allows them to understand the business and thus, deliver business intelligence solutions that meets business needs. It also allows more flexibility and rapid application development
Thanks,
Ali YAqoob
