Hi Latif,
In a way I completely agree with you and yet disagree in certain parts. The importance of skilled resources i’sn’t just for the larger companies, its also meant to further develope the many smaller local companies which are mushrooming all over the country. However, somthing that I see, is the question of sustainability. We need these skilled young people not just to further the cause of IT in existing organizaions but to also create new avenues for growth.
I know I may sound too optimistic, but I think after seeing tthe abundance of talent that we have, the next Mark Zuckerber( creator of Facebook at 23) may just come from Pakistan! Thats why its so important to remind them that the sky’s the limit and not just a white collar job!

I think the discussion is defintely interesting and of a good length. I think one thing both the people have missed to discuss and that is the issue of the supply and demand. There simply isn\’t enough demand being generated by the IT industry in Pakistan for any kind of serious efforts to take place. Realistically speaking, there are only a handful of companies who frequently looking to hire. Our largest company employs about 400 people. The total workforce across the PASHA and PSEB listed companies cannot be more than 1000. Even if you take the average developer workforce to be 10 per company, that hardly craetes a case for investing heavily in the further niche development of the skilled workforce.
Beacuse the incentive isn\’t there, its the same people who keep circulating within the ecosystem.
Lack of general ethics on the part of fresh grads who think they can run the shop with 1 month worth of experience and a prissy college degree… But then, can we expect anything more from the students when the leaders (companies) in the industry can\’t create the excitement or hype that all this technology deserves?
